Victorian schools have a limited-time opportunity to secure funding for hands-on environmental and sustainability projects — but applications close on 27 March 2026 (3pm AEDT).
The Victorian Junior Landcare and Biodiversity Grants are now open, offering schools funding to engage students in real-world sustainability and biodiversity projects.

What Is This Grant?
The Victorian Junior Landcare and Biodiversity Grants are delivered by Landcare Australia and funded by the Victorian Government to support young people in learning about and actively caring for the environment.
Schools can receive up to $5,000 per project, with around 100 projects funded across the state.
These grants are designed to get students out of the classroom and into hands-on environmental learning experiences.
What Can Schools Use the Funding For?
This grant focuses on biodiversity and environmental education, meaning projects should connect students with nature and ecosystems.
Funded projects can include:
Native gardens and habitat creation
Biodiversity or pollinator projects
Soil health and environmental monitoring
Wildlife habitat restoration
Environmental excursions or expert workshops
Student-led sustainability programs
Projects must help students understand, protect and improve local ecosystems.
Why Schools Should Apply
This is one of the most accessible grants for schools in Victoria — and one of the best for launching or expanding sustainability programs.
It allows schools to:
Deliver hands-on STEM and environmental learning
Build student leadership through sustainability initiatives
Create real environmental impact on school grounds
Connect learning to real-world issues like biodiversity loss
Last year alone, thousands of students took part in projects such as planting native gardens, building habitats and conducting biodiversity surveys.
Example Project Idea
A strong application could be:
“Student-Led Biodiversity & Compost Learning Hub”
This could include:
planting native species to attract pollinators
monitoring soil and plant growth using STEM tools
creating habitats for insects and wildlife
This type of project aligns perfectly with the grant because it combines:
✔ biodiversity outcomes✔ student engagement✔ hands-on learning✔ measurable environmental impact
Who Can Apply?
Eligible applicants include:
Primary and secondary schools
Catholic and independent schools
Youth groups and Junior Landcare groups in Victoria
Key Dates
Opened: 17 February 2026
Closes: 27 March 2026 (3pm AEDT)
With only days remaining, schools should act quickly to prepare and submit their application.
Need Help Applying?
Many schools have great ideas but struggle to turn them into strong applications.
At Urban Green Farms, we help schools design projects that align with grant criteria and increase success rates — particularly in:
sustainability and environmental education
STEM-based learning programs
garden and compost system design
If you’d like help shaping your application or project idea, reach out to us at info@urbangreenfarms.com.au. We also have Grant writing guides and pre filled grant application templates.
Tip: Even if your school has received funding before, positioning your application as a “Stage 2” or expansion project (e.g. scaling composting or biodiversity work across the school) can significantly improve your chances.

This is a great opportunity for schools to integrate sustainability into practical learning. Projects like habitat restoration and biodiversity studies can really engage students and make a difference locally.
