Hydroponics is simply described as growing plants without soil. Hydroponics allows you to control more of the variables including pH levels, lighting and nutrients for optimal plant growth and produce yields. Water is the main method of delivering the nutrients to the plant’s roots, combined with growing media to help support the plant. Hydroponically grown plants dip their roots directly into nutrient-rich solutions, so plants get more of what they need much faster and easier. Hydroponic farming can be used in locations where soil conditions are too poor to support farming, or where space is limited. It can be done anytime and anywhere!

About Urban Green Farms
At Urban Green Farms, we are committed to enhancing conventional farming practices and transitioning to regenerative agricultural methods. Our core principles revolve around food security, climate change, local produce, clean eating, and the well-being of future generations. Founded by Andrew Meseha, our aim is to apply innovative technologies to sustainable food methods and contribute to a more united and sustainable community.
Learn
We believe that knowledge is essential for driving meaningful change in our communities and beyond.
Our approach focuses on providing accessible education that enables individuals to understand and implement modern growing methods like aquaponics, hydroponics, and regenerative agriculture.
Through hands-on programs and practical learning experiences, we empower people to develop the skills they need to make a positive impact on their environment, fostering a sustainable future for all.
Grow
This is where knowledge becomes action.
Urban Green Farms gives people the tools to grow food anywhere: backyards, balconies, schools, farms, community spaces — even indoors.
Our systems are designed to work in real Australian conditions, built for efficiency, reliability and strong results.

“Grow” represents the outcome: healthier plants, better harvests, more sustainable habits, and a stronger connection to the food we eat.
Discover
Discovery is where innovation and curiosity meet.
This pillar speaks to the future — exploring new technologies, testing new ideas, and pushing the boundaries of sustainable agriculture.
From award-winning aquaponic systems to vertical farming, regenerative products, soil biology, and industry-changing collaborations, we encourage people to step into what’s possible.
It’s about inspiring everyone to see agriculture through a fresh lens and be part of the shift toward smarter, cleaner, circular growing systems.

Genetically Modified Organisms are unnatural! That's right! Unnatural!
Scientists have been testing the effects of genetically modified crops on humans for years. These crops have had their DNA changed to fight off pests and disease.
The good news is, you don't need to eat them ever again. Visit our blog about Organic seeds and find Australia's best suppliers.

How cool is that? Aquaponics and Hydroponics (AKA Ponics) use 90% less water due to the nature of the practices.

The plants only feed on what they need and return the rest of the water to the tank.
It's called recirculating!

There is a range of exciting techniques that ALL use way less water than conventional farming.

Grow all year round

Our indoor systems don't need to battle the daily challenges of mother nature. Even though we love mother earth, we don't like pests and diseases.

Indoor gardens across Australia that are grown "ponically" require almost zero pesticides and repellants because they stay indoors away from the elements.
That's what I call clean food!

Teaching our future generations about sustainable farming practices will help secure our food security for years to come.
Education is key to creating a cleaner and healthier earth as well.
Alternative farming practices will take the strain off our food chain and provide localised food sources that support our ever-growing population.
